Oil Spill Action at Ministry of Environment & Energy in Greece
An “oil leak” accident happened in front of the Ministry of Environment & Energy. Greenpeace activists painted the words ‘No Oil’ with “petrol” that leaked, in order to send a message against the government’s plans to start big-scale offshore oil drilling in the Ionian and Cretan Sea as soon as possible. The government’s slow response to limit the oil spill in the Saronic Gulf and efficiently clean the coast after the accident prove that big-scale offshore oil drilling is a risky and irresponsible act and an environmental disaster waiting to happen. A country like Greece depends on its natural environment and an accident would have devastating consequences to local economies and the society. In contrast to the petrol in the Saronic Gulf, the "petrol" was made using plant-based ingredients and can be easily washed out with water.
