Toxics Action at Fertilizer Producer Hydro Agri in Rotterdam the Netherlands
Greenpeace activists visit with the Greenpeace ship Beluga the fertilizer producer Hydro Agri in Rotterdam to block one of the discharge pipes with sandbags. Hydro Agri discharges heavy metals, radioactive compounds and phosphates into the Nieuwe Maas. The activists also hang banners reading 'Hydro Agri, stop de kunstmestproductie, er is al stront genoeg!', which translates to English as 'Hydro Agri, stop the production of fertilizer, there is already enough shit!'. They protest against the pollution caused by the fertilizer industry and the product fertilizer. At the end of May the Council of State reversed the discharge permit and from this moment on Hydro Agri is discharging without any permits.
