Pak Dani Jambang and his son Dedi, local fishermen and guides for a Greenpeace team, on the boat while traveling through the intact peatland rainforest. The local population is heavily affected by the deforestation, which causes the land to dry out before the forest is turned into acacia or oil palm plantations. Enormous amounts of nutrients are drained out acidifying rivers, lakes and water streams. Since 1998 the fishing catch has dropped by 70 percent.
