Greenpeace Climate Defenders Camp
Nasir Jambang, son of Pak Dani Jambang, a local fisherman who guided a Greenpeace team, outside his fishermen family's cottage on the Serkap river, in the deep intact peatland rainforest in Kampar Peninsula.
The local population is heavily affected by the deforestation, which causes the land to dry out before the forest is turned into acacia or oil palm plantations. Enormous amounts of nutrients are drained out acidifying rivers, lakes and water streams. Since 1998 the fishing catch has dropped by 70 percent.
