Fisherman in Indonesia
Pak Dani Jambang, local fisherman and guide of a Greenpeace team, on his boat on the Tesik Besar Lake while traveling through the intact peatland rainforest in the Kampar Peninsula. The local population is heavily affected by the deforestation, which causes the land to dry out before the forest is turned into acacia or oil palm plantations. Enormous amounts of nutrients are drained out acidifying rivers, lakes and water streams. Since 1998 the fishing catch has dropped by 70 percent.
