Greenpeace activists set off dozens of hand-held personal alarms outside the Earth Summit venue to show their anger and disgust at the backroom conspiracy led by US, Japan, Canada, Australia and OPEC oil countries to deny basic energy to the world’s poorest and to destroy the world’s environment. The demonstration was carried out by about 30 Greenpeace and other NGO activists wearing T-shirts with slogans reading “fight till the end” and “open your eyes” in seven languages including Chinese, Japanese, English, German, Spanish, French and Arabic. Greenpeace was reacting to news, which emerged late last night, that all renewable targets have been dropped from the Action Plan dealing with energy and climate policy. Police removed the demonstrators by pushing them out of the secure zone.
