Kiribati King Tides Flooding Documentation
The public cemetery at Betio village, Kiribati, Pacific Ocean, occasionally floods at high tide. During a week of unusual high tides caused by the 'King Tides' some villages experienced flooding and structural damage. The islands, and their way of life, is endangered by rising sea water levels which are eroding the fragile atoll, home to approximately 92,000 people.Greenpeace and scientists are concerned that low lying islands face permanent inundation from rising seas due to climate change.
