Scientific Data Collection in Greenland
A 'CTD' unit being lowered into Sermilik Fjord by scientists from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute is seen through the porthole of the MY Arctic Sunrise. The unit has a number of sensors attached, measuring salinity, temperature and depth data, also added are a dissolved oxygen sensor, a turbidity sensor and an acoustic doppler current profiler which measure velocity of currents. Scientists on board the Greenpeace ship are studying Helheim glacier which displays alarming signs of increased melt and flow rate.
