Toxics Action Pittsburgh Paint and Glass in Louisiana
Jeanne Merrill, age 28, from San Francisco, is arrested outside Pittsburgh Paint and Glass (PPG) in Lake Charles. Members of the environmental organization Greenpeace blocked shipments of vinyl chloride, by locking a coach bus to railroad tracks leading into a plant entrance. The activists believe that PPG has operated three toxic waste incinerators on illegal interim status for 16 years and is responsible for hundreds of industrial accidents. One sign on the bus says "Poisoning People Globally".
