Mechoacan Community Members
Residents of the community of Mechoacan which borders the Drummond coal mine - a US-based coal company - in Guajira province. The community was founded in 1991 by peasants granted the land through INCORA (Instituto Nacional de la Reforma Agraria) land reform process. Many of the community suffer from respiratory and eye problems and the water is contaminated. There are only 3 people from the community who work in the mine. The rest can't get employment since they have no education.
