Big Blue March in Alaska
Greenpeace campaigners: George Pletnikoff (Alaskan Aleut), Greenpeace USA, Jun Hoshikawa from Greenpeace Japan Junichi Sato from Greenpeace Japan (holding green banner), and Sani Nabou (Fiji) from Greenpeace Australia Pacific.
The Big Blue March is a global day of activities with thousands of people across twenty countries and more than fifty cities marching to send a message to delegates at The International Whaling Commission (IWC). Supporters parade through Anchorage, Alaska which is the venue for the annual meeting of the IWC.
Hundreds of thousands of whales die every year as a result of ship strikes, climate change, pollution and being caught in nets. Greenpeace demand the IWC be modernised in order to defend the whales, not the whalers.
