Logger's Families in Congo
A logger and his family sit on a Afrormosia logs in the SAFBOIS concession. Afrormosia is a protected tree species whose international trade is strictly regulated (listed under CITES Appendix II) . Their father makes 400 Congolese Franc per day, which is less than one dollar. Industrial logging is done by SAFBOIS in the rainforest surrounding many small communities. Approximately 40 million people in the DRC depend on the rainforest for their basic needs, such as medicine, food or shelter.
