REACH Toxics Demonstration at the European Commission Building in Belgium
A Greenpeace banner is on display inside the European Parliament with artwork of a young baby being directly fed pure toxins with skull and crossbones label. The piece addresses the fact that many young children are being born with a cocktail of hazardous chemicals in their bloodstream, passed on from the toxins inadvertently ingested by their mothers. This is part of a larger banner where we see that President Jose Manuel Barroso and Industry Commissioner Gunter Verheugen are the culprits feeding the baby. By weakening provisions and lowering safety standards Barroso and Verheugen are putting public health at risk as many toxins and chemicals will still be present in consumer goods.
