Kostia Nekharasov harvests the potatoes in their garden with his mother and sister Natalya. Kostia has Down Syndrome, and is often sick. He had to have his fingers separated through surgery. His sister Natalya had a brain tumour when she was 8 years old. Their mother mother Ludmilla blames the illness on the Techa River where she often swam when she was young.
