Action Against Gazprom's Arctic Drilling
Two activists are helped out by other crew members after they attached their inflatable to mooring lines linking the Anna Akhmatova (a Gazprom passenger vessel) and the Prirazlomnaya oil platform. The Anna Akhmatova proceeded with boarding anyway, winching the Greenpeace boat into the air and throwing the activists into the freezing arctic waters. This is part of a series of actions held to prevent Gazprom from completing the work that will allow them to begin drilling in this fragile region. Gazprom looks set to begin full commercial drilling operations by early next year, becoming the first ever company to start commercial oil production in the offshore Arctic.
