Local Communities around Virunga National Park in DRC
The British oil company Soco and the French oil company Total are working towards oil exploration in the Virunga National Park. The government has supplied the licenses although the Virunga Park is a protected nature resort and even on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The local communities in the villages in the area are already suffering due to several conflicts. They fear for their future when oil pollution will ruin their fishing waters and agricultural land. These images show farmers and fishermen and their families in their environment.
