The Jan Maria is one of the Pelagic Freezer-trawler Association (PFA) ships. These ships catch fish living near the surface of the water, such as herring, mackerel, horse mackerel, sardines, sardinellas, silver smelt and blue whiting. The majority of these fisheries are unsustainable due to overfishing.
