Kaltex Pipe Blocking Action in Mexico
Greenpeace activists partially block the Levi's suppliers (Kaltex) discharge pipe, located in San Juan del Rio, Mexico, and display a banner reading "Levi's Go Forth Detox Now!". Kaltex is operating with little transparency and under weak Mexican laws, which allows them to avoid scrutiny of their manufacturing processes. Greenpeace tested discharge water from the Kaltex facility and discovered hormone disruptors and tri benzenes. Greenpeace’s investigatory report, “Toxic Threads: Under Wraps”, exposes dumping of industrial wastewater containing toxic and hazardous chemicals from two of Mexico’s biggest textile manufacturing facilities with links to brands including Levi’s. Greenpeace is demanding Levi’s eliminate all hazardous chemicals from their clothing and supply chains.
