Toxic Warning Action at EC in Brussels
Twenty-seven Greenpeace activists, one for each EU member state, display a banner reading "toxic warning" outside the European Commission headquarters. Greenpeace is protesting against the introduction and cultivation of new herbicide-tolerant genetically engineered (HTGE) crops in Europe that could increase herbicide use by up to 15 times. Activists deliver this 'toxic warning' to the European Commission, concluding an eight city tour of Europe alerting citizens, farming communities and decision makers of the impending threat. A sign in the on some activists reads "GM crops = 800% more glyphosate herbicide".
