Satellite view of the large Rim Fire in California. The Fire is clearly visible at night with a superimposed outline of the state and international borders as well as the glow of lights from Los Angles and San Diego in the lower part. San Franciso Bay area is in the center left, and Reno, Nevada, in the north. The fire's perimeter is at least 246,350 acres, according the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The fire was caused by a hunter who let an illegal fire get out of control.
