'Free the Arctic 30' Sailing Protest in New York
Members of the Sound Sailing Center in Norwalk, Conn., and Greenpeace activists hold posters of imprisoned activists in front of boats docked in the North Cove Marina after circling in front of the United Nations Building with four sail boats. The flotilla executed 30 circles on the East River to honor the Arctic 30, the 28 member crew of the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise and two journalists who have been held in Russia since Sept. 19 when the ship was boarded and seized by Russian Coast Guard following a peaceful protest at a Gazprom oil platform in the Arctic. Captain Peter Willcox sometimes teaches at the sailing school.
