As the Arctic 30 face their 46th day in a Murmansk detention center, friends and family of Greenpeace International activist Gizem Akhan gather in solidarity, unfurling banners at Istanbul’s Maiden’s Tower, the day before her birthday.

Greenpeace Mediterranean activists circle the tower in an inflatable holding a banner reading “Happy Birthday Gizem” while friends and family unfurl a banner reading: “We’re With You On Your Birthday.”

Gizem Akhan and the rest of the 'Arctic 30' (28 Greenpeace International activists plus a freelance photographer and freelance videographer) are currently held in a Murmansk detention centre following a peaceful protest at Gazprom’s Prirazlomnaya platform in the Pechora Sea.
