Exposed coral heads after phosphate mining. Pacific island of Nauru. The island is the richest in the Pacific thanks to large deposits of high grade phosphates which provide fertiliser for New Zealand and Australia. The phosphates are expected to run out by the mid-90's, leaving the island interior deforested and uninhabitable.
