Fruit of Brazilian Nut Tree
Nilson collecting the fruit of the castanheira (Brazilian Nut Tree) that he sells as a way of living. He is a member of the MST Movimiento Sem Terra (workers without land). He has to pay between 10 and 30% of what he makes to the fazendeiros who own the land where the trees grow. If he doesn't collect the fruits nobody will, but he still has to pay to access the land.
Greenpeace document a number of geographical locations in the Amazon, looking at the impacts of deforestation on various aspects of forest life. They look at people, natural wildlife and the landscape which has drastically altered as huge areas are cleared to meet agricultural demand. Soya plantations are the leading cause of deforestation in the region.
