First time the glacier was documented in 2019, as a part of the 'Climate impact tour' in Austria. Schlatenkees glacier is part of what used to be the largest glacial area in Austria, Venediger kees-es. In just three years 2019-2022 the Schlatenkees retracted drastically, between 60-100m. The glacial lake is clearly formed and therefore the glacier tongue is believed to be dead / broken.
