Activists from Greenpeace Seoul hung giant banners in front of South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors HQ calling for the phase-out of internal combustion engines (ICE).

Hyundai Motors CEO, Chung Eui-sun vowed his commitment to spur the use of electric vehicles, highlighting the importance of EVs for a zero-carbon future, the survival of the company, and for South Korea. However, Hyundai’s business is still heavily relying on ICE vehicles.

Greenpeace is pressing the auto industry to cease production and sales of all internal combustion vehicles, including hybrids, by 2028 at the latest.
