Collection: Tuna Transshipment Collection
GP0STP1SG
This collection features clip reels of tuna fishing practices in the Pacific Ocean shot by Greenpeace between 2007 and 2011. Known as transshipping, this fishing operation offloads tuna from a fishing vessel to a reefer (a cold-storage ship). The reefer then takes the fish to port allowing the fishing vessel to stay at sea for up to two years at a time. With little monitoring the practice of transshipping allows human right abuses, as well as illegal and unsustainable fishing, to flourish on the high seas when no one is watching.
