In Shenmu County in Yulin of Shanxi province which has been one of the “Top 100 Prosperous Counties in China”, one can easily spotted “coal bosses” who own assets worth of more than hundreds of millions and luxury cars. However, the coal industry in this area has been declined and the ecosystem has been damaged, one tributary of Yellow River flowing through this area has suffered flow disruption in recent years, crops production in some places dropped, reservoirs dried up, ground collapsed and walls of houses cracked and therefore villagers had to move out. Ten years so far, coal has witnessed the vicissitude of Yulin, Shanxi province.
