Positioned at the front lines of climate change impacts, the Philippines is plagued by food and nutrition security concerns - an emerging threat. The worsening impacts of climate change and the unpredictability of extreme weather events, such as typhoons and drought, are putting unnecessary stresses on the coping mechanisms of farmers in many regions in the country.

Greenpeace is calling on the next president of the Philippines to prioritize food and agriculture by developing policies and programs to help transition the country’s farming system towards a more climate-resilient ecological agriculture, as well as equipping farmers with timely and localized weather information and an early warning system to enable farmers to plan well.

This call is further substantiated by the results of the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey commissioned by Greenpeace. The survey results showed that forty-four percent (44%) of the respondents want the government to focus on providing financial support to make farming climate-resilient while 39 % said that they want the government to focus on ecological agriculture like organic farming.
