A Greenpeace advisory report confirms: criteria for an animal welfare label in Germany are unconstitutional. The criteria of the planned label are so weak that even pork from animal husbandry from factory farms can receive the state seal of approval. The report analyzes to what extent the criteria previously planned for the regulation, such as space, food or castration, are compatible with German and European law.
The planned animal welfare label is also under criticism, because it would not be binding and thus would not cover all pork products.
Greenpeace calls for a mandatory label.

Greenpeace Rechtsgutachten bestaetigt: Kriterien für staatliches Tierwohl-Label sind verfassungswidrig. Die Kriterien des geplanten Tierwohl-Labels sind so schwach, dass auch Schweinefleisch aus rechtswidriger Tierhaltung das staatliche Guetesiegel erhalten kann. Das Gutachten analysiert, inwiefern die bisher fuer die Verordnung geplanten Kriterien wie Platz, Futter oder Kastration mit deutschem und europaeischem Recht vereinbar sind.
Das geplante Tierwohl-Label steht auch in der Kritik, weil es nicht verpflichtend gelten soll und damit nur einen Teil der Schweinefleischprodukte abdecken wuerde.
Greenpeace fordert eine verpflichtende Haltungskennzeichnung.
