Japanese government will lift the evacuation orders in parts of the more heavily contaminated area in March and April 2017. One year later, it will cut compensation payments to former residents of these areas. Housing support for evacuees from outside designated area will be terminated in March 2017. This resettlement policy may potentially force people back to the contaminated area against their will, due to financial pressure. Greenpeace calls for the Japanese Government to take immediate action to uphold survivors’ human rights by ensuring survivors are given fair compensation, housing support, access to transparent information, and participation in decision-making processes for nuclear policies.
