The Great Northern Forest covers a vast area of boreal region that stretches from the Pacific coast of Russia, through the Far East and Siberia over the Ural Mountains to Scandinavia and again from the east coast of Canada to Alaska. Though separated by oceans, this huge area of forest is a single ecosystem separating the temperate regions at its southern border from the icy tundra to its north.

The Great Northern Fortest is home to an incredible diversity of life. From grey wolves, bears, lynxes, and bald eagles to the incredible and endangered Siberian tiger, they all call the boreal home. And because there are many species of trees and plants, even the bacteria in the soil play an important role in maintaining the fragile balance of life in the winter snow forests of northern Europe, Canada and Russia.

The Great Northern Forest is also home to millions of Indigenous People. From the many First Nations and Metis in Canada, the Sami of northern Scandinavia to the Nenet in central Russia, their way of life has depended on the boreal forests for thousands of years.
