In March 2023, Greenpeace Brazil and Greenpeace East Asia flew over The Kayapó and Munduruku Indigenous Lands in the Amazon to register the illegal mining activity in those territories and the impact excavators are having to the forest and to Indigenous People. At the time, 98 machines were registered: 88 in Kayapó territory and 10 in the Munduruku area. Excavators from 13 different companies were identified. Experts and indigenous leaders claim that since 2010 when excavators entered the territories more strongly and intensely, the destruction caused by illegal mining has increased exponentially. And, despite the attention that the federal government began to dedicate to the subject after the crisis with the Yanomami, illegal mining continues to advance: between January and March 2023, new mining alerts were registered in the Kayapó (294 hectares) and Munduruku (37 hectares) Indigenous Lands.

Parem as Máquinas!
