With a cocktail bar offering non-alcoholic drinks with limes, Greenpeace activists demonstrate in front of the Federal Ministry of Economics against the import of toxic pesticides through the planned EU-Mercosur trade agreement. On behalf of Greenpeace, a laboratory tested over 50 samples of Brazilian limes bought in supermarkets and hypermarkets in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. All but one of the samples showed pesticide residues. Six of the active substances identified are not authorised in the EU. Some active substances are highly toxic to bees or are considered carcinogenic.
