In 2017 and 2018, the Arctic Sunrise traveled the East and West Coasts of the U.S. and found microplastic pollution in every sample collected along the way. The ship also found plastics in six samplings across the Atlantic from Amsterdam to NYC, and even in remote Antarctic waters.
