Hundreds of people participate in global protests to show their support for the 'Arctic 30,' twenty-eight Greenpeace International activists, as well as a freelance videographer and photographer. The activists participated in a peaceful protest against Arctic oil drilling at a Gazprom oil platform in the Pechora Sea. Greenpeace International executive director Kumi Naidoo has stated, "The Arctic is melting before our eyes, and these brave activists stand in defiance of those who wish to exploit this unfolding crisis to drill for more oil."
