Shoot: Protect Beeches from Logging, Spessart - News Access
GP329NK
Aschaffenburg, 14th December, 2012: Greenpeace activists stand in front of beech trees in the Spessart marked for logging to prevent their logging. The beeches in this area of the Spessart forest are up to 180 years old. Only in June the Bavarian State Forestry (BaySF, Bayerische Staatsforsten) put a ban on logging in these forests, yet it continues. Greenpeace is calling on the responsible Bavarian Prime Minister Seehofer to immediately stop the logging of old beeches and to put 10% of the public forests under protection.
Statement: Oliver Salge, Greenpeace Germany forests expert.
