Typhoon Hagupit is shown in this NASA satellite view Dec. 4, 2014. At the time, Hagupit was a category 5 super typhoon with sustained winds of 155 knots (180 miles or 290 kilometers per hour). Known in the Philippines as Ruby, the storm made at least four landfalls killing at least 27 people and dumping up to 18 inches of rain. Hagupit (Ruby) made its first landfall at 9:15 p.m. Dec. 6, local time near Dolores in eastern Samar, according to PAGASA, the Philippine national weather agency. It was the fourth category 5 typhoon of the year in the Western Pacific. 4.
