Shoot: Rainbow Warrior 30th Anniversary Clipreel
GP0STP1MD
The Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior was bombed by French government agents just before midnight on 10 July 1985. She was preparing to sail to French Polynesia to protest against France's nuclear testing. Two explosions sunk the ship at Marsden wharf and killed Greenpeace photographer Fernando Pereira. Global opposition finally stopped France's nuclear testing in 1996. The Rainbow Warrior was laid to rest in Matauri Bay in 1987 and a commemorative plaque was added on the 20th anniversary in 2005. The original Rainbow Warrior has been replaced twice. The third Rainbow Warrior – the first purpose-designed boat for Greenpeace – was launched in 2011.
