Shoot: Climate Action Clean Air Campaign against Air Pollution in Zurich Switzerland

GP0C46
Around 20 Greenpeace activists ‘greened’ the ‘Rosengartenstrasse’ in Zurich today. Along with residents of the street they halved the number of tracks over a distance of 100 meters with a carpet of grass. This "traffic calming" is a symbol for what the canton and federal government should do when there is a high level of ozone: put a stop on private motorized transport. Because only a massive reduction of motorized traffic can reduce the levels of ozone.
Greenpeace therefore demands that the set ozone limit will finally be taken seriously and to react with urgent measures when it comes to the protection of the public against harmful concentrations of ozone. The ozone value limit as set in the Clean Air Regulation - 120 micrograms per cubic meter – is being exceeded numerous times in Switzerland, while this limit may only be exceeded for one hour once a year. In July alone, the ozone levels in the city of Zurich, were too high on 9 days and during 42 hours is, with maximum values of 167 micrograms of ozone per cubic meter. Not only Zurich suffered from ozone in July, but also Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lugano and St Gallen.
