Greenpeace India held a three-day event at the Constitution Club, New Delhi, on March 15-17 to
highlight the cause of the country’s declining soils. The Living Soils Exposition showcased photographs
on soils that reflected people’s thoughts, creativity and views on soils. It brought together Members of
the Parliament, government officials, civil society organizations, farmers groups, students and policy
experts to debate the country’s policies on soil and agriculture. The main objective being to facilitated
a discussion on soil health and ecological fertilization. Some of the dignitaries at the expo included
Jatin Das, Raghu Rai, Shovana Narayan, Shyam Benegal and Swami Agnivesh who lent solidarity to the cause of healthy soils. Apart from the discussions and the photo-exhibition, the expo also had
farmers demonstrating how to make ecological fertilizers of various kinds. Greenpeace will now present
the outcomes of the various discussions to the relevant Government departments and the Planning
Commission of India.
