Shoot: Khao Hin Son Anti-Coal Network Protest in Thailand
GP0STPJC4
Khao Hin Sorn anti-coal network gathered at the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) demanding that the Government not give the go-ahead for a coal-power plant, as they believe it would affect their health and the environment of the region.
The protest came after the ONEP's environmental expert panel met for a third time to deliberate on the Environmental and Health Impact Assessment (EHIA) report of the 600-megawatt coal power plant in Chachoengsao province. The 600-MW coal plant proposal was submitted by the National Power Supply Company – subsidiary of one of the biggest pulp and paper industry in Thailand “Double A”.
After a whole day of deliberations, the coal plant proposal failed again to get approval by the Environmental Expert Commission (EEC). The decision was celebrated by Khao Hin Son anti-coal network, an anti-coal group fighting for around seven years to stop this coal plant project.
