The Ghost Fishing diving team and Thilo Maack, Greenpeace Marine Biologist and diver, plunge into the South Atlantic ocean to explore Mount Vema for remnants of ghost fishing gear and to document the rich biodiversity at the seamount.
The divers from Ghost Fishing carefully retrieved a discarded lobster pot.
At Mount Vema the Tristan crayfish was fished to the brink of extinction, twice, but has been able to replenish itself. Thilo Maack, Senior Oceans Campaigner and Protect the Oceans Campaign Lead, and Bukelwa Nzimande, Climate and Energy Campaigner, elaborate on the significance of the Mount Vema leg of our Protect the Oceans pole to pole expedition.
