A solar laboratory opened its doors for students of the Professional high school of Bobov dol, Bulgaria. Five top performing students are going to start their additional education in the specially designed module "Installer of photovoltaic systems". During the second semester they will learn how solar systems work and how they are installed and operated.
The Professional High School of Bobov dol is the successor of The Technical school of mining industry. Students are studying in two professional directions: "Electrotechnician" and "Electroenergetics". As part of the laboratory, solar panels were installed on the building, together with boiler and other equipment.

The town of Bobov dol - once a center of the coal industry with mines and the iconic TPP Bobov dol located in a nearby village, is in a difficult situation now. Mines are closing and the power plant, which is one of the most polluting, is trying to ensure a permit for waste incineration - a compensatory move in an effort to fix the economical downward spiral the plant is entering, as coal becomes more and more unprofitable.
The construction of the Solar laboratory is part of the campaign for energy transformation which will ensure energy production form renewable sources and better alternatives for the coal regions. The project is backed by The Center for energy solutions.
