Greenpeace projects at the Centrale Gelderland in Nijmegen the causes of CO2 emissions of coal-fired power plants on the climate. The KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) expects that the amount of rain falling in August will break up the record. This month will probably be the wettest ever. The rainfall, but also the heavy storms elsewhere in the world, are phenomena that appear more often and become more violent with progressive climate change. The projection of Greenpeace shows that in the past months climate change has been responsible for major problems, like hurricanes in America, spring flood in Japan and floods in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. In the Netherlands the causes become also more visible. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the advisory of the United Nations, forecast that the sea level will rise the coming age with 55 cm. In the Netherlands we must invest in the construction of dykes to protect ourselves against the rising sea level. The Dutch government takes some measures, but they have little attention for the causes of climate change: the CO2 emissions. The coal-fired power plants can stay open for a longer period, while the production of green energy is stimulated too little. The 23-year old Centrale Gelderland of the Belgian electricity supplier Electrabel emits every year 2,3 million tonnes of CO2 and is jointly responsible for the climate change. Greenpeace urges electricity suppliers Electrabel, Essent, Nuon , Eneco and E.ON to run down the use of the coal-fired power plants and to invest in green energy.
