Shoot: Climate Action at Gaumukh Glacier in India

GP017DT
Greenpeace activists stand in front of the Gaumukh glacier, a source of the River Ganges bearing the message Climate change is killing Ganga. Recent investigations of the Gangotri glacier, at 3400 meters above sea level have found the rate of retreat has almost doubled to 34meters per year. The glacier has been retreating since measurements began in 1842. Between 1935 and 1971 it was retreating about 19metres per year. The protest by Greenpeace calls for immediate action to tackle climate change and marks the beginning of the Climate conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
