Greenpeace activists hang a huge banner at the Sint Servaasbrug above the river Maas (Meuse) in Maastricht. The text on the banner reads ‘Think about the future, let’s clean the Maas now!’. Together with the Greenpeace ship Beluga and Res Nova they protest against the chlorine production. Behind the Beluga lies Chlorientje, an eight meter long plaster baby, tied up an afloat. Chlorientje is the symbol of poisoning of humans by pollution of the Maas through among others dioxin, one of the most toxic chlorines that occur in the Maas. According to Greenpeace Dutch and Belgium people have on average more dioxin in their body than any other nation in the world. We get down dioxin for example by consumption of fishing oil, that is processed in cookies. Greenpeace urges to clean the Maas as soon as possible.
