Shoot: Toxics Action at Illegal Toxic Dump Site in Bex Switzerland

GP01TVL
This morning forty Greenpeace activists revealed an illegal toxic dumpsite on the premises of chemical company FEBEX SA in Bex. The activists also marked other chemical landfills around the FEBEX premises, one of those being a landfill which is still used by FEBEX as an illegal toxic dumpsite. The dumpsite of the Basel chemical company in Bonfol, which is being occupied by Greenpeace since eight weeks, is a national problem. Other companies have caused similar contaminated sites. Greenpeace filed a complaint today against 'persons unknown', because the contaminated site in Bex was left behind by the predecessor companies of the Company FEBEX SA. It is unclear whether the company Ciba Geigy in Monthey, which has been drawing raw materials from Bex since World War One, also used the landfill. Greenpeace marked the borders of the contaminated site and the illegal landfill and gave the company a black FEBEX Bonfol barrel, representing the polluter of the old landfill in Bex.
Following this action in Bex Greenpeace activists marked another toxic landfill in the neighboring town of Ollon. Here, 120,000 tons of residues from waste incineration plant Satom were stored.
