Shoot: Genetic Engineering Action During Expo 02 in Murten Switzerland

GP01TK8
About a dozen Greenpeace activists, dressed in traditional costumes, mingled among the the participants of the “Tages der Nahrungsmittelindustrie“ (Day of the Food Industry“) on the premises of the Expo 02 terrain. Prior to the speech of Federal Councilor Pascal Couchepin, they unfolded a red banner with the Swiss cross, reading in German: “Suisse qualité braucht Gentech-Moratorium“ or translated: „Swiss quality needs GE moratorium“. Under the costume aprons and coats anti-GE slogans emerged. The minister of Economics and Agricultural was asked to give up the pressure which is put on farmers and parliamentarians who support a moratorium on genetically engineered crops. A Federal Council must be committed to the common good and not the corporate interests of Syngenta & Co.
