Shoot: Climate Action on High Tatras Mountains

GP01KDI
Seven Greenpeace activists from Slovakia and Poland climbed a mountain in the High Tatras range to call for a result at the COP-MOP climate conference in Poznan. Greenpeace demanded that both Polish and Slovak governments take concrete steps, rather than weakening the EU climate stance at the coming conference. They set up their battery powered banner reading 'Act Now Poznan 08' in very bad weather (minus temperatures, ice, snow and 80km/h winds) at a height of 2340 m (160 m below the summit).
Decisions within the Kyoto Protocol are taken when its Parties meet, which is called the Meeting of the Parties (MOP) to the Kyoto Protocol. These meetings take place together with the Conference of the Parties (COP), hence why officially these meetings are called the ‘Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol’ (COP/MOP). Poznan will therefore be COP14/MOP4 (the 4th meeting of the parties to the Kyoto Protocol).
